Why is Tyson Fury fighting Derek Chisora on December 3? That’s probably been the most popular question in boxing over the past two months. But come Sunday morning the pair will have duked it out at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London and the result will be in the history books.

But, really, why is this fight happening?

Well, the fantasy matchup between Fury and former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua fell apart during negotiations. To be honest, almost no one believed that fight was going to happen at such short notice and it didn't. A replacement was needed for Fury and some names were tossed around.

Joe Joyce? He was just off a tough win over Joseph Parker and wouldn’t be back until 2023. Manuel Charr? The Syrian veteran is largely unknown in U.K. fight circles. Derek Chisora? Fury has beaten him twice, but “War” puts bums on seats and he knows how to sell a fight.

Box ticked.

Chisora is a massive ticket seller in the capital and he’s accustomed to the pay-per-view platform. Charr doesn’t bring numbers. Filip Hrgovic doesn’t bring numbers. Boxing is a business and everyone involved in this matchup knows exactly why Fury and Chisora are going at it one more time.

“It’s a great event,” Fury told BT Sport shortly after the bout was officially announced. “Chisora and myself going out there; we’re good talkers, good entertainers, people know what they get with him, and they know what they get with me.

“It’s a great British heavyweight title fight. People should be very happy because other than me and Dillian Whyte (in April), it was a long time [since] two Brits had fought for the WBC heavyweight title (Lennox Lewis vs. Frank Bruno in 1993).”

Chisora obviously has the book on Fury and there will be no surprises when the pair clash in this trilogy bout.

“He’s very good on his back foot, he’s good at going forward, he’s good inside, and he’s a bully in the ring, which is good,” offered Chisora in a recent interview with Queensberry Promotions. “You can only adapt when you get in there with a man like that.

“It’s a great fight, and I have to win by knockout.”

The Sporting News now provides the lowdown on how you can purchase this event via BT Box Office.
