Before he outgrows the light flyweight division, Kenshiro Teraji is ready to be a fighting champion. He defends the WBA, WBC, and The Ring titles against Carlos Canizales in his backyard in Japan on January 23. The fight airs on ESPN+ in the U.S.
Teraji has fought for world flyweight gold since 2017 when he beat Ganigan Lopez for the WBC title. The only hiccup of his career so far has been losing the belt against Masamichi Yabuki in 2021, but he regained it in a rematch a year later. Since then, "The Amazing Boy" beat Hiroto Kyoguchi for the WBA and Ring belts. Teraji's last fight was a TKO win against Hekkie Budler in September, his fourth straight win via the power punch.
There may be a chance Teraji won’t stay at light flyweight forever. Before moving weight, he is interested in fighting WBO champion Jonathan Gonzalez.
"I would love to fight for a third world title next," Teraji said via Boxing Scene. "Please shout so everyone can hear that I want to [further] unify the junior flyweight division. I believe there is still a chance to fully unify this division. I think I can stay at this weight if we can unify next year."

Canizales fought Ryoichi Taguchi to a draw in 2016 for the WBA light flyweight title but captured it in 2018 against Reiya Konishi. The Venezuelan lost the belt against Esteban Bermudez in 2021 and has since won four in a row. His last contest was a win in June against Daniel Matellon.
