After a year away from the ring, Artur Beterbiev returns to action on January 13. The IBF, WBC, and WBO light heavyweight champion defends his belts against Callum Smith in Quebec City. The fight airs on ESPN+ in the U.S.

Beterbiev turned pro in 2013. The two-time European Championships gold medalist won the IBF light heavyweight title against Enrico Kolling in 2017. He beat Oleksandr Gvozdyk to win the WBC title and Joe Smith Jr. in 2022 for the WBO belt. In his last fight in January 2023, Beterbiev took down Anthony Yarde to retain the titles. All of his fights have ended via some form of knockout.

Suffering an injury in late 2023, a healthy Beterbiev is ready to be much more active in 2024, starting with a game Smith.

"He’s (Smith) a good opponent. He’s good challenge for me," Beterbiev told Fight Hype via Bad Left Hook. "If we talk about my past opponents, I never say someone’s going to be easy for me, if it’s going to be easy for me or not. Like him too, I’m preparing for Callum Smith for 100% like he prepare for me too."

A silver medalist in the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Smith turned pro in 2012. The former super middleweight contender won the WBA title in 2018 but lost the belt against Canelo Alvarez in 2020. Since then, "Mundo" has won two straight at the light heavyweight level, beating Mathieu Bauderlique in August 2022 via knockout.
