The Minnesota Vikings had to wait a little while before signing quarterback J.J. McCarthy to his rookie contract. The contract was agreed to two days prior to McCarthy reporting to training camp and he signed the deal once he reported to TCO Performance Center.
The holdup with McCarthy's contract was with the signing bonus. He reportedly wanted the entirety of his signing bonus up front. That is something that the Vikings haven't done before. According to The Star Tribune's Ben Goessling, that is exactly what McCarthy got.
The #Vikings agreed to pay all of J.J. McCarthy's rookie signing bonus up front. He'll get the entire $12.741 million next week.

Dallas Turner gets his $8.286M bonus in two installments: about three-quarters of it next week and the rest on March 15.
The Vikings haven't done that before, but it hasn't stopped them before from making it happen. They have broken precedent multiple times, including fully guaranteeing Kirk Cousins' contract in 2018.
Getting McCarthy in the building was always the number one goal for the Vikings and they got it done without a lot of hassle.
