One of the first heavy-weight bouts of the 2024 NCAA Tournament happens when No. 2 Tennessee battles No. 7 Texas in a second round game in Charlotte, N.C.

The Volunteers rolled to a 83-49 victory over No. 15-seeded Saint Peter's in the first round. Tennessee was able to clear its bench so the Volunteers should be relatively rested against the Longhorns.

Tennessee fifth-year guard Dalton Knecht scored 23 points and entered into the top five on the program's single-season scoring list. Knecht, who recorded 20-plus points for the 14th time in the last 19 games, shot 8-of-15 from the floor, including 4-of-8 beyond the arc.

Junior guard Zakai Zeigler had11 points and added 10 assists, which was the fourth-most ever by a Tennessee player in the NCAA Tournament,

The win was No. 200 for coach Rick Barnes at Tennessee, making him the 19th coach ever to hit that number at two Division I schools.

Texas methodically pulled away in a 56-44 victory over No. 10 Colorado State in the first round. Max Abmas and Dylan Disu each scored 12 points for the Longhorns, who held the Rams to 29.3% (17-58) field goal shooting.

Texas lost in the Elite Eight last season, but is eager to get back. The Longhorns went 1-of-14 from beyond the arc against the Rams and they will need to shoot much better to beat Tennessee on Saturday.

The Longhorns are looking to advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the second straight year and the 15th time in program history. A win on Saturday would send Texas to the Sweet 16 in back-to-back years for the first time since Texas went to three-straight Sweet 16's in 2002-03-04.
