Minnesota Vikings CB Mekhi Blackmon leaves practice with injury image

The Minnesota Vikings cornerback room took another hit on Wednesday. Mekhi Blackmon suffered an apparent lower-body injury during the Vikings' first practice of training camp, according to multiple reports.

The injury occurred during 7-on-7 drills, per ESPN's Kevin Seifert. He was reportedly on the ground for several minutes with the training staff. That aspect could be concerning but it could also be as simple as a pulled hamstring. That answer will come with time.

Blackmon is coming off of an excellent rookie season where he earned the nickel cornerback job. Going into the 2024 season, Blackmon is competing for a starting cornerback spot opposite of Byron Murphy Jr.

The injury will open up opportunities for the likes of Andrew Booth Jr., Dwight McGlothern and new signee Duke Shelley.
