A Sweet 16 matchup in the women's NCAA tournament between the Texas Longhorns and the Gonzaga Bulldogs will take place this Friday on ESPN.

The Longhorns are one of three No. 1 seeds left in the tournament. Through the first two rounds, they defeated Drexel, 82-42, and Alabama, 65-54, to make it to the Sweet 16.

Against Alabama, Madison Booker and Aaliyah Moore both posted 21 points a piece to help lift the Longhorns to a tournament victory. They were the only two women to score in double figures from the team.

The Longhorns are a perennial tournament team, having only missed five tournaments --- excluding the canceled 2020 NCAA tournament --- in school history.

They've only won one tournament in school history, however, and that was nearly 40 years ago back in 1985. Can they advance one round closer to their second championship in school history?

For the Bulldogs, they breezed past UC Irvine in the first round, 75-56, before defeating the Utah Utes in the second round, 77-66. That lifted them to a Sweet 16 appearance thus far.

Against Utah, the Troung sisters (Kaylynne and Kayleigh) combined for 35 points on 9-of-21 shooting from the field. Yvonne Ejim also posted 17 points to help the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs are still sniffing for their first NCAA tournament championship in school history. The furthest they've made it is the Elite Eight. In the past four seasons, the furthest they've gone is the second round.
