NFL analyst labels offensive coordinator as Jaguars biggest question in 2024 image

When quarterback Trevor Lawrence was taken by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the idea was that he would come in and immediately turn the fortunes of the team around. That turnaround has been neither as quick or as dramatic as many would have hoped for. That has led some to question whether Lawrence was overrated coming into the league, while others look to the coaches – and specifically the offensive coordinator – as the problem.

CBS Sports NFL analyst Jared Dubin is in the later camp, as he’s labeled Press Taylor, the Jaguars offensive coordinator, as the team’s biggest question mark heading into the 2024 season – Taylor’s third year as offensive coordinator.

The Jags keep trying to make Press Taylor happen. Doug Pederson keeps trying to make Press Taylor happen. Why this is the case, nobody really knows. We haven't yet seen that the OC is able to put his players in position to succeed, let alone thrive.

All-in-all, it’s not like Taylor’s offense with the Jaguars last season was bad. The team finished 13th in the league in total yards per game and 14th in points per game. However, with a quarterback as hyped as Lawrence, that simply isn’t good enough. Will this be the year that Lawrence and Taylor get the offense figured out and take the next step towards playoff success?

The team did lose last year’s leading wide receiver Calvin Ridley in the off-season to the Tennessee Titans. Will his replacement, rookie Brian Thomas, Jr. be able to fill his shoes and lead the wide receiver corps? Taylor may have some work on his hands to turn the perception of his offense around in 2024.
