For the first time since 2009, Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi will go head-to-head in a hot dog eating contest.

The competitive eating legends will meet on Labor Day in "Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef," a live event that will determine whether Chestnut or Kobayashi is the ultimate hot dog champion.

Fifteen years ago, Chestnut defeated Kobayashi at the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest, but Chestnut knows previous results will be thrown out of the window when he faces his biggest rival.

The Chestnut vs. Kobayashi hot dog eating contest will begin at 3 p.m. ET on Monday, Sept. 2. It will take place at HyperX Arena in Las Vegas.

Joey Chestnut vs. Takeru Kobayashi hot dog eating contest rules

  • Contestants will have 10 minutes to eat as many hot dogs and buns as possible.
  • Contestants are not allowed to dunk or pour water on hot dogs and buns. They are also not allowed to separate hot dogs from buns.
  • Penalties can be issued if contestants break rules or regurgitate.
  • Contestants will have 30 seconds to finish what is left in their mouths after time has expired.
  • Excess crumbs can be weighed and deducted from final scores.
  • First overtime (if necessary): Contestants will have three minutes to eat as many hot dogs and buns as possible.
  • Second overtime (if necessary): The winner will be the first contestant to finish five hot dogs and buns.
