Former Browns interim head coach makes bold assertion about Baker Mayfield image

As the 2024 Cleveland Browns take the field for training camp, former Browns' interim head coach Gregg Williams appeared on the Baskin & Phelps show and reminisced about his stint with the team in 2018, making a bold assertion about himself and Baker Mayfield.

Williams was the team's defensive coordinator who took over when head coach Hue Jackson was fired midway through the 2018 season.  He coached for eight games earning a 5-3 record. His coaching stint was short-lived. Williams was replaced by Freddie Kitchens in 2019. (Kitchens' 2019 record was 6-10.)

Williams had rookies Baker Mayfield and Nick Chubb on the Browns roster.  He remains a huge fan of both players.  Williams believes if he had stayed on with the Browns, he would have won a Super Bowl with Mayfield as his quarterback.

This is not the first time Williams has said this, and Browns fans tend to roll their eyes when hearing it.  The city, fans, and the franchise are hungry for a first-ever Super Bowl championship to finally put an end to this age-old speculation.
