Tennessee earned the No. 2 seed in the Midwest region of the 2024 NCAA Tournament and will play No. 15 Saint Peter's in the Round of 64 on Thursday in Charlotte.

In the lone prior meeting between the Volunteers and Peacocks, Tennessee registered a 54-40 decision on March 14, 1984, in Knoxville in the opening round of the NIT.

The Volunteers are led by Dalton Knecht, a semifinalist for the Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Player of the Year. Knecht earned The Sporting News First Team All-America status in unanimous fashion. He also won SEC Player of the Year accolades from both the league's head coaches and the Associated Press, the latter unanimously.

Entering the postseason, Knecht is averaging 21.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 47.4 percent from the field, including 40.5 percent on 3-pointers. The Julius Erving Award finalist owns 11 25-point performances, including seven with 30-plus, five with 35-plus and three with at least 39.

Tennessee is 25-26 all-time in NCAA Tournament action, including 6-5 in its first five appearances under ninth-year coach Rick Barnes.

This is the second time Tennessee has reached the NCAA Tournament six times in a row, joining a streak from 2005-06 through 2010-11. In each of its six NCAA Tournament trips during Barnes' tenure, Tennessee has garnered a seed of fifth or better; it had done so just six times before his arrival, since seeding began in 1978-79.

St. Peter's earned an automatic bid with a 68-63 victory over Fairfield in the 2024 MAAC Tournament Championship.

The last time the Peacocks were in the NCAA Tournament (2022), they became the first 15 seed to advance to the Elite Eight.

The Peacocks are led by sophomore Corey Washington, who led the team in scoring (16.8 points per game) and rebounding (6.4). The 6-6 forward scored 20 or more points in nine games and tallied four double-doubles.
