North Carolina is the No. 1 seed in the West Regional of the 2024 NCAA Tournament and will open play against the winner of Tuesday's game between Howard and Wagner.

The Tar Heels are the fourth No. 1 seed behind Connecticut, Houston and Purdue. If they win two games in Charlotte, they will advance to the West Regional in Los Angeles beginning Thursday, March 28.

North Carolina is a No. 1 seed for the 18th time, the most in NCAA history, and for the first time since 2019. The Heels have a 63-12 record as a top seed.

The Tar Heels' last five NCAA titles came as a No. 1 seed — 1982, 1993, 2005, 2009 and 2017. North Carolina has a .728 winning percentage in the NCAA Tournament, the second best in history.

Howard won the 2024 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference with a 70-67 victory over Delaware State. It marked the Bison's second conference title in the last three seasons.

Junior guards Bryce Harris and Marcus Dockery were named to the All-MEAC First Team and Second Team, respectively, while graduate forward Seth Towns claimed a spot on the Third Team.

In his second season at the helm, Wagner coach Donald Copeland led the Seahawks to an unprecedented Northeast Conference title. Wagner secured three straight road wins against the top three seeds in the conference to clinch its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2003.
