Avinash Sable finished sixth in the men's 3000m steeplechase event at the Silesia Diamond League 2023 athletics meet.
Despite falling short of his personal best, Sable's season's best time of 8:11.63 secured his qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics, meeting the required standard of 8:15.00. The result marks Sable's second Olympic appearance after competing at Tokyo 2020.
Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco, who is currently the reigning Olympic, World and Diamond League champion, bagged gold setting a meet record time of 8:03.16. Meanwhile, Kenya’s Abraham Kibiwot, the Commonwealth Games 2022 champion, stood second clocking 8:08.03. Whereas, Leonard Bett, took home the bronze with a time of 8:09.45.
However, star runner, Ethiopia’s Getnet Wale, failed to finish the race after finishing second behind Bakkali at Rabat and Stockholm.

Where does Avinash Sable rank in the Diamond League series?
Sable earned three qualification ranking points for his performance in Poland. However, he is in the ninth position and must finish within the top eight to qualify for the Diamond League Final, a two-day event in Eugene, the USA on September 16 and 17.
He will get two more opportunities in Monaco and Shenzhen to improve his 2023 Diamond League season ranking.
