Minimum overs in a rain-shortened IPL game?
The minimum number of overs required to determine an outcome is five overs. The team that bats second will have to play at least five overs in order to get a result, which means that even the team that bats first will have to play at least five overs during their innings if a result cannot be achieved earlier.
An IPL match should be completed in 3 hours and 20 minutes, including the strategic timeouts as well as the innings break. A one-hour extension window is provided (till 12 AM for a 7:30 PM game) if the match isn't completed due to weather conditions, rainfall, or any other reason.
If rain plays spoilsport, then the DLS method will be used based on when the rain interrupts and how much playing time is lost.
