The 49ers' divisional-round playoff game came down to the wire, and outside of quarterback Brock Purdy delivering when it mattered the most, little things, like the clutchness of rookie placekicker Jake Moody, also made all the difference.
Moody was originally selected by the team with the No. 99 overall pick in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft as the first of his position to come off of the board. There are mixed opinions about taking a kicker that early, but in many ways, it made sense for San Francisco.
49ers general manager John Lynch explained the move in an interview after the draft with KNBR 60.
"A lot of teams needed a kicker, and there were kind of two or three that were viable options in the draft," he said. "There were a couple available via trade. But again, we kept coming back to we felt like Jake Moody in his talent and then his makeup, his mental makeup, which is very important at that position, was the guy that we were most interested in."
That decision has clearly paid off.

Here's a look into everything to know about Moody by the numbers with the conference championship game next up on the schedule.
Jake Moody's longest field goal
While just an NFL rookie, Moody is no stranger to success with long field goals. That rang true at the college level, as well, as Moody's registered a career-long 59-yarder to set a College Football Playoff record against TCU in the first half of the Fiesta Bowl on Dec. 31, 2022.
Moody's longest kick on the season, (and also for his career since he is just one year in) is 57 yards, which he kicked in Week 2. Moody also caught attention when he booted one 52 yards to bring San Francisco within four of Green Bay on the first play of the fourth quarter of the postseason matchup that ended in a 24-21 49ers win on Saturday.
He also owns the longest kick ever made in Super Bowl history at 55 yards. The attempt marked the first points put up on the board in Super Bowl 58 for either team.
