On March 18, 2021, quarterbacks Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford changed teams. Nearly three years later, they will meet in a wild-card matchup between the Lions and Rams.

Goff was the No. 1 overall pick by the Rams in 2016 in their inaugural season in Los Angeles after relocating from St. Louis. He spent his first five seasons in LA before being traded to Detroit prior to the 2021 season.

Goff has thrived under Lions coach Dan Campbell and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, throwing for 4,575 yards with 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions this season. He led Detroit to its first division title in 30 years, and the Lions earned the No. 3 seed in the NFC.

After being traded, Stafford led the Rams to a Super Bowl title in 2021. This season, Stafford threw for 3,965 yards with 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Los Angeles shook off a slow start, winning seven of its final eight games to earn the No. 6 seed.

The Lions have gotten a boost this season from rookie tight end Sam LaPorta. He sustained a knee injury in Week 18, but according to NFL Network, LaPorta is "trending in the right direction to play."
