California Chrome owner Steve Coburn apologizes on 'GMA' image

It took a while, but California Chrome owner Steve Coburn finally apologized for his disgruntled outburst following his horse's loss to Tonalist in the Belmont Stakes on Saturday.

Coburn and his wife Carolyn joined Robin Roberts on "Good Morning America" on Monday so he could apologize for the remarks he made immediately following the third leg of the Triple Crown.

Coburn's initial outrage stemmed from the fact that his horse was racing for the third time on a month and on an injured hoof while other horses had not raced and were in better physical condition for the longest race of the Triple Crown. Obviously, Saturday was not an ordinary situation.

California Chrome was attempting to become the first horse in 36 years to win the Triple Crown, and the loss struck Coburn's nerve.

His quote "It's the cowards way out," became a trending topic on Twitter in the minutes immediately following the race.
