The SEC spring meetings are being held in Destin, Florida, and all sorts of nuggets of information are popping up. Here’s what was heard Tuesday:
Georgia coach Mark Richt on scheduling: “We’ve had the Arizona States of the world; we had Oklahoma State a couple of times, and we’ve got Clemson a couple of times,” Richt told the Journal-Constitution. “And I think in the future there will be a few more goodies to come.”
Arkansas coach Bret Bielema on uptempo offenses and the discussed 10-second rule: “I love up-tempo offenses. I love going against them. I love competing against them,” he told reporters. “I respect coaches that believe in that system because it is so much different than mine.”

Florida coach Will Muschamp on scheduling FCS opponents: “I think every institution ought to be making their decision on what they want to do. I know moving forward that for us obviously having four non-conference games, one of those would be Florida State every year. We’ve talked about upping our non-conference schedule. My opinion is what everybody else does doesn’t matter,” Muschamp told The Gainesville Sun. “We’re probably going to move forward without playing FCS opponents. I think more than anything, (the College Fotball Playoff), that’s part of it. And I think our fan base as much as anything want to see better opponents. So that’s kind of where we are with it.”
SEC commissioner Mike Slive on the league sticking to an eight-game conference schedule: “When the presidents told us to come up with a format for 2016 and beyond we looked at every possible format you can imagine,” Slive told Tony Barnhart in a one-on-one interview. “We knew that there wasn’t a perfect solution. Different folks had different views and ultimately we had to make a call. The strength of our (eight-game) conference schedule is rather significant. And a number of our schools are playing non-conference rivals in the ACC and still others are playing quality neutral site games. So if we got everybody to play that type of game it essentially gets us to nine.”
