In 2009, Monica Wilkinson and her fiancee, Leroy, had their perfect wedding planned.

But over the course of the last five years, financial struggles, miscarriages, the birth of a late-term stillborn daughter and a devastating Stage 4 ovarian cancer diagnosis derailed the couple's wedding plans.

Monica's medical bills piled up as she began the process of undergoing 18 rounds of chemotherapy.

"It just was seeming like every dream we had was just completely out of reach for everything," she said.

Then one day, out of nowhere, Monica received a call from the assistant of Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.

"I got a call from his assistant," recalls Monica. "And she said Mark Cuban was going to help pay for our wedding. And I was completely floored. I thought it was a joke."

But Cuban followed through on his promise and the couple got married in an April ceremony.

"I felt like a princess," Monica said.

Her husband, Leroy, had a message for Cuban: "Thank you. She means the world to me."

The big day uplifted Monica's spirits, fueling her motivation to power through the brutual rounds of chemotherapy and radiation that await.

"Now we actually have those memories that can actually get us through," says Monica. "I can go back and have those pictures now and have a reason to smile."

And for Monica and Leroy, that's something no amount of money could ever compete with.
