NBAで3シーズンにわたってプレイした元ドラフト1巡目指名選手のケイレブ・スワニガンが、25歳で亡くなった。母校のパデュー大学が6月21日（日本時間22日）に発表している。
当局によると、スワニガンはインディアナ州フォートウェインの病院で自然死したとのことだ。

スワニガンは2017年のドラフトでポートランド・トレイルブレイザーズに全体26位で指名された。NBAでは通算75試合に出場。平均2.3得点、2.1リバウンドという数字を残している。
2019年2月7日（同8日）、スワニガンはスカル・ラビシエと引き換えにサクラメント・キングスへトレードされ、2020年1月21日（同22日）にトレバー・アリーザやウェニェン・ゲイブリエルとともに、ケント・ベイズモア、アンソニー・トリバー、ドラフト2巡目指名権2つと引き換えに、再びブレイザーズにトレードされた。
パデュー大では2年生だった2016-17シーズン、平均18.5得点、12.5リバウンド、3.1アシストを記録し、オールアメリカンとビッグテンの年間最優秀選手に選出された。このシーズンのウッデン賞、ネイスミス賞、オスカー・ロバートソン賞のファイナリストにも選ばれている。
