High school baseball team has lucky Craigslist goat image

After the Saline (Mich.) High School Hornets shut out their opponent in the state baseball tournament, one of the players yelled for the crowd to "bring in the goat."

His demands were met when Junior, the team's unofficial mascot, trotted onto the field and posed for the team photo with the championship trophy.

The mastermind behind the team's unlikely supporter is starting pitcher Josh Smith, who can't explain how he came to the sudden realization about what the team was lacking.

"I woke up one morning thinking we needed a team goat,” said Smith. “I can’t really explain it.”

Smith did what any reasonable person in search of a goat would do: He searched Craigslist.

After calling a few places, Smith and some friends finally located Junior in Davisburg, Mich., about an hour north of the high school.

“We called a couple of people, and drove up all the way to Davisburg to buy it. It wasn't easy to get," Smith explained.

Junior isn't a bandwagon goat fan, though.

He was in attendance for all of the Hornets' regular season home games and even made a few road trips.

He'll be at the University of Michigan with the team on Tuesday as the Hornets compete in the Class A state quarterfinals.
