For a second consecutive night, the Padres are wearing throwback uniforms to celebrate their 1984 NL championship. On Thursday, I thought they might have been trolling their opponent, the Cubs, whom the Padres beat in the NLCS that year.

Upon review, that seems harsh. It's Retro Weekend in San Diego as the Padres mark the 30th anniversary of the franchise's first league pennant. Several members of that team were at Petco Park on Friday night, including Steve Garvey.

And, after wearing the '84 white home jerseys on Thursday, the Pads donned the '84 brown road unis on Friday.

It's still interesting that the Padres chose a series vs. the Cubs. Why not a series against, say, the Braves, who were in the NL West with the Padres (chew on that geographical brain buster) then? We could have seen a version of Atlanta's old baby blue unis. We might have even seen a dramatic reenactment of one of the best (or worst, depending on your view) brawls in baseball history. It's the 30-year anniversary of that, too.
