Very nice of the Padres to remind Cubs fans that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the 1984 NLCS. The Pads wore '84-style unis on a throwback Thursday at Petco Park with the Cubs in town.

The Cubs wore blue tops Thursday, just not their '84 vintage ones.

Cubs fans know the story of '84 too well: Chicago won the first two games of the LCS at Wrigley Field. The series was best-of-five back then, so the Cubs needed just ... one ... win in San Diego to get to the World Series.

Well ...

They lost Game 3 handily. Then the Padres' Steve Garvey hit a walkoff homer in Game 4. And in Game 5 ... Leon Durham happened.

Thirty years later, still no World Series for the Cubbies — and no World Series triumphs for the Padres, either. They lost in five to the Tigers in '84 and were swept by the Yankees in 1998.

UPDATE: Karma alert: Cubs win! Cubs win! Cubs win! By a 5-1 count.
