DENVER — The Rockies have been decimated by injuries in the last month, losing third baseman Nolan Arenado, left fielder Carlos Gonzalez and, now, outfielder Michael Cuddyer.
Cuddyer was placed on the 15-day DL before Monday's game against the Braves with a shoulder fracture. He was injured diving for a ground ball at third base last Thursday against Arizona.
Cuddyer said after the game doctors told him the injury could take six weeks to heal.
"It was pretty painful the past few days," Cuddyer said. "Finishing that game (Thursday) was extremely painful and now we know why."
Arenado (broken left finger) is expected to miss at least another month. Gonzalez will have exploratory surgery on his left index finger in Cleveland on Tuesday.
On top of that, Colorado starters Tyler Chatwood, Jhoulys Chacin, Brett Anderson and Jordan Lyles have missed time this season. Righty Eddie Butler, who made his major league debut Friday, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday with right rotator cuff inflammation.
"You look at the guys that are out, it's half the rotation," Cuddyer said. "A former All-Star left fielder, All-Star right fielder, guy who was going to be an All-Star third baseman this year, there's no question that's tough. At the same time no one in the league is going to feel sorry for us."
Colorado lost to the Braves, 3-1, at Coors Field.
