It wouldn't be a night in Major League Baseball without a report of a pitcher suffering an elbow injury. Wednesday's report involves Marlins right-hander Henderson Alvarez.

Alvarez departed after throwing five shutout innings vs. the Nationals. He has been excellent this year for the surprising Marlins, posting a 2.97 ERA in 66 2/3 innings.

Alvarez, 24, missed the first half of last season with inflammation in his pitching shoulder.
