With summer almost over, WWE will end the season on a high note. Detroit is the place to be, as WWE presents its SummerSlam event on August 5.

SummerSlam takes place at Ford Field, the first time WWE has had an event in that venue since WrestleMania 23 in 2007. The show will air on Peacock in the U.S. and the WWE Network outside of it.

Several of WWE’s top stars are performing: Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, and Asuka. Also performing will be some of those who transcend wrestling: Brock Lesnar, Ronda Rousey, and Logan Paul.

Who will walk out of SummerSlam with gold and bragging rights?

WWE SummerSlam 2023 match card

Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar 3

One of the top bouts on the card will be Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar 3.

On the RAW after WrestleMania, Lesnar turned on Rhodes after teasing a tag team with him. A reason was never given for the betrayal. At Backlash, Rhodes beat Lesnar via rollup after Lesnar dominated the majority of the match. An enraged Lesnar got his revenge, beating Rhodes at Night of Champions after breaking his arm, forcing the latter to pass out following an armbar.

Lesnar returned a few months later, attacking Rhodes. Challenging him to a match, Rhodes stated he wasn’t afraid of “The Beast Incarnate.” The trilogy match will settle everything between the two.

Per Bet Online, Rhodes is the -800 favorite, while Lesnar is the +425 underdog.

Roman Reigns (c) vs. Jey Uso in a Tribal Combat match for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title

Roman Reigns defends the Undisputed WWE Universal Title and his status as Tribal Chief against Jey Uso.

The Bloodline recently imploded, with The Usos superkicking Reigns on an episode of SmackDown. At Money in the Bank, Jey pinned Reigns in a “Bloodline Civil War” tag match, the first time Reigns ate a pinfall in three years.

The bout is a rematch from 2020, when Reigns defeated Jey inside a Hell in a Cell match, forcing Jey to join The Bloodline.

Per Bet Online, Reigns is the -2000 favorite to retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Title, while Jey is the +700 underdog.

Seth "Freakin" Rollins (c) vs. Finn Balor for the World Heavyweight Title

In a rematch from Money in the Bank, Seth "Freakin'" Rollins defends the WWE World Heavyweight Title against The Judgement Day's Finn Balor. Rollins beat Balor to retain the belt, and Balor would not let the loss go.

Balor beat Rollins at SummerSlam in 2016 for the Universal Title but was injured following a Rollins powerbomb on the outside barricade, forcing him out of action for months.

Per Bet Online, Rollins is the -160 favorite to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Title, while Balor is the +120 underdog.

Asuka (c) vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Bianca Belair for the WWE Women's Title

Asuka defends the WWE Women’s Title against former champions Charlotte Flair and Bianca Belair.

Asuka beat Bianca Belair at Night of Champions for the title. Belair, who wanted a rematch, was interrupted by Flair, who challenged and lost to Asuka via DQ after Belair interfered. With Damage CTRL's Iyo Sky holding a Money in the Bank briefcase, the three will be cautious of her whereabouts.

Gunther (c) vs. Drew McIntyre for the WWE Intercontinental Title

Gunther looks to break the Honky Tonk Man's record of a single-reign title run when he defends the WWE Intercontinental Title against Drew McIntyre.

The champion since June 2022, Gunther beat Sheamus and McIntyre in a candidate for Match of the Year at WrestleMania.

McIntyre went on hiatus but returned at Money in the Bank, making his intentions known. The two then agreed to a match at SummerSlam.

Per Bet Online, Gunther is the -500 favorite to retain the WWE Intercontinental Title, while McIntyre is the +300 underdog.

Logan Paul vs. Ricochet

A YouTuber meets a high-flyer as Logan Paul faces Ricochet.

It all goes back to the Royal Rumble when Paul and Ricochet performed a flying clothesline from opposite sides of the ring. There was no follow-up until Paul got added to a Money in the Bank ladder match that included Ricochet. Ricochet put Paul through multiple tables via a Spanish Fly, and an enraged Paul attacked him after the match. They later agreed to a bout at SummerSlam.

Ronda Rousey vs. Shayna Baszler

It’s a battle between the Four Horsewomen of MMA as Ronda Rousey faces Shayna Baszler.

Rousey picked Baszler on her team for The Ultimate Fighter years ago. She later teamed with Baszler in WWE, winning the WWE Women's Tag Team Titles. During a title defense at Money in the Bank, Baszler turned on Rousey, losing the titles and destroying their friendship.

Baszler later cut promos saying she was the reason Rousey got into WWE. After brawling for several weeks, the two agreed to a “fight” at SummerSlam.

Per Bet Online, Shayna Baszler is the -800 favorite, while Ronda Rousey is the +425 underdog.

SummerSlam Battle Royal

It was announced Raw and Smackdown stars will compete in a battle royal at the event, with Sheamus and LA Knight the first participants of the match. It is unknown at this moment what the winner will receive.
