The 21-year-old Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat, who won the bronze medal in the Men's 57kg freestyle wrestling at the Paris 2024 Olympics, is a product of the Chhatrasal academy, in New Delhi.
The famous wrestling academy has produced several superstar wrestlers who have gone on to represent India at the world stage and win Olympic medals for the country.
For Sehrawat however, it was his home, as he was orphaned at the age of 11, following the demise of both his parents at a young age. The academy took him in, out of sympathy, but with time and inspiration from world-class athletes around at the akhara, he molded himself gradually into a strong athlete.
He is one of the academy's next generation of wrestlers, who have worked and trained, as they continue the tradition of winning Olympic medals for the country.
"Chhatrasal Stadium is my home. The wrestlers here are my family. If someone comes and asks me to go somewhere for Diwali, I don’t agree. I make it clear that I’m not leaving Chhatrasal. Now people also know that this is my mentality. I don’t like roaming around or going around Delhi either," Aman told Sportstar.
In this article, The Sporting News looks at a list of all the famous wrestlers from the Chhatrasal academy, who have won an Olympic medal.
