Bradley Beal has agreed to a two-year, $72 million extension with the Wizards, agent Mark Bartelstein told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Thursday.
Beal's extension begins in the 2021-22 season and includes a player option for 2022-23, Wojnarowski added.
"Brad has always made it clear to me, that in a perfect world, he would never leave Washington," Beal's agent told ESPN. "He has felt an obligation to be the focal point in turning the Wizards into an elite team. He's thrilled about all the resources that Ted is pouring into the franchise and thrilled how committed (Leonsis) and Tommy are to building something special."

If Beal chooses to become a free agent in the summer of 2022, he will now be eligible for a five-year, $226 million contract with the Wizards and a four-year, $198 million should he choose to sign with another team in the league.
Beal is coming off of the best season of his young career. He appeared in all 82 games with the Wizards and averaged career-highs of 25.6 points, 5.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game while leading the league in minutes played.
Heading into the 2019-20 season, our NBA.com Staff ranked Beal as the second-best shooting guard in the league.
On ESPN's Get Up, Wojnarowski spoke about how Beal's extension impacts a number of teams across the league because the two-time All-Star is unlikely to be traded anytime soon now that he's committed to the Wizards.
