India's challenge at Wimbledon 2023 ended as Rohan Bopanna was knocked out in the semi-final of men's doubles on Thursday.

Bopanna and Matt Ebden, seeded sixth, went down 5-7, 4-6 to top seeds Wesley Koolhof of the Netherlands and Neal Skupski of Great Britain in an hour and 26 minutes.

Koolhof and Skupski made most of the scarce opportunities that came their way, converting on both their break points -- one in each set -- to edge past the Indo-Australian pair. Meanwhile, they saved the only break point they faced.

Having made the final four, Bopanna equalled his best finish at Wimbledon. He had reached the semi-final in 2013 and 2015 before this.

How have Rohan Bopanna and Matt Ebden performed at Wimbledon 2023?

Bopanna and Ebden haven't had it easy at Wimbledon. From rain delays to tricky opponents, the duo have survived it all so far. Here's how the sixth seeds have fared:

Round Opponent  Score
First round bt Guillermo Duran-Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-2, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (8)
Second round bt Jacob Fearnley-Johannus Monday 7-5, 6-3
Third round bt David Pel-Reese Stalder 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (5)
Quarter-final bt Tallon Griekspoor-Bart Stevens 6-7 (3), 7-5, 6-2
Semi-final lost to Neal Skupski-Wesley Koolhof 5-7, 4-6

What next for Rohan Bopanna?

Sixth seeds Bopanna-Ebden will take on top seeds Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski in the semi-final. The match is scheduled to take place on Thursday.

How did other Indian players fare at Wimbledon 2023?

Indian doubles veteran Rohan Bopanna joined forces with Gabriela Dabrowski for the mixed doubles event at Wimbledon 2023. The Indo-Canadian duo had won the 2017 French Open together, which was the first Grand Slam title for both players.

Bopanna-Dabrowski, however, failed to recreate that magic at Wimbledon this year as they narrowly lost in the first round of mixed doubles on Sunday.

Despite a strong start, they went down 7-6 (5), 3-6, 4-6 to 2019 Wimbledon champions Ivan Dodig and Latisha Chan.

In men's doubles, Yuki Bhambri and Saketh Myneni battled valiantly but suffered a 4-6, 6-4, 4-6 defeat to Adrian Mannarino and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

Davidovich Fokina and Mannarino are established players and are currently ranked No 34 and No 35 respectively in singles. The quality on the serve and the depth of the serve proved too much for the Indian doubles specialists on the day.

Meanwhile, Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and N Sriram Balaji also lost their first round match. The Indian duo lost 6-7 (5), 4-6 to second seeds Austin Krajicek and Ivan Dodig in a rain-delayed contest.
