Australian wildcard Aleksandar Vukic has bowed out of the Australian Open 2022 in straight sets.

He faced Moldovan qualifier Radu Albot in the second round of the tournament, falling 6-4 7-6 6-4.

World No.124 Albot was not fazed by the home crowd on Court 3, proving too good for the Australian in their match that lasted two hours and 16 minutes.

Vukic's 35 winners and 11 aces were negated by his 44 unforced errors, on top of only converting one of his six break points.

32-year-old Albot progresses to the third round of the tournament for the second year in a row and will now face Australian John Millman or No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev.

Despite the loss, Vukic has enjoyed a stellar start to 2022.

He obtained a career-high ranking of world No. 144 following a first top-50 win and ATP quarterfinal appearance at the Adelaide International.

The 25-year old then fought back to stun 30th seed Lloyd Harris in the first round of the Australian Open on Monday.

Vukic's four-set victory was his first-ever win at the Australian Open.
