Alex de Minaur and Jordan Thompson both lost matches overnight on Saturday (AEDT) at ATP tournaments in the Netherlands and United States.
De Minaur fell to Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals of the World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam, 6-4 6-4.
Whilst Tsitsipas was inefficient on break point opportunities - converting three of 12 - his 82% win percentage on his first serve compared to his Australian counterpart's 64% was crucial in the solid victory.
A break on the fifth game of the first set gave the World No. 4 the keys to victory, despite de Minaur's attempted comeback in the second set.
“There were moments today when I was literally hitting the ball really hard," Tsitsipas said after the match.
"Almost hitting the lines back-to-back, and he [de Minaur] was able to get those balls back, and not only get them back but also counter-attack which was very impressive to say the least.
"You have to be patient, you’ve got to wait and see if he can do it over and over again.
“I took my time, I tried to understand what works for me and what doesn’t, and with the right momentum, with the right intention, things kind of paid off.
"I was able to get ahead in the score, which gave me a lot of confidence, and I think my serve was very good today, it gave me a lot of points and applied a lot of pressure to him."
What a finish 💪@steftsitsipas claims his 7th win over De Minaur 6-4 6-4 and moves into the last 4 in Rotterdam!#abnamrowtt pic.twitter.com/fOUBgKNrrV

World No. 83 Thompson had his serve broken twice in the first set before his American opponent ran away with the match.
