NBA news and highlights: Holiday drops 37 points, Rudy Gay stars against Jazz, Kemba lights up the Knicks and Bucks win a thriller image

There were just four games around the Association Sunday, but there was no shortage of action with some of the league's top teams and talent on display.

Top Storylines

Jazz go cold as Spurs get revenge 

After scoring a franchise record 20 three-pointers last week against the Spurs, the Jazz couldn't find the magic touch today, going down 110-97.

Utah managed just 9-for-29 from beyond the arc as the Spurs defence stifled them all night. The Jazz shot 43 percent from the field, compared to San Antonio's 52 percent.

DeMar DeRozan led the way with 26 points, six rebounds and eight assists, while Rudy Gay finished with 23 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.


After a tight first quarter, San Antonio piled on 31 points to Utah's 18 in the second, to take a commanding 18-point lead. Utah bounced back after half-time, with Donovan Mitchell and Ricky Rubio coming to life, combining to score 46 points after the the main break.

Rubio finished with 26 points on the night, while Mitchell led the way with 27, but it was all too late as the Spurs hung on the get revenge for their 34-point loss last week.

Aussie Joe Ingles managed just five points on 2-for-5 shooting, missing both of the threes he attempted.

Brogdon heats up late to seal Bucks' win

The Milwaukee Bucks make it 2-0 this season against the Toronto Raptors, thanks to some late game heroics from Malcolm Brogdon.

With the game in the balance late and the Bucks trailing by three, Brogdon tied it up with a triple with 1:07 remaining and then put them in front shortly after with another from beyond the arc to ice the game 104-99.


Brogdon finished with 18 points on the night, while Giannis Antetokounmpo stuffed the stat sheet with 19 points, 19 rebounds, six assists and a block. Brook Lopez added 19 points, including five 3-pointers.

Holiday and Randle power Pelicans past Pistons

The Pelicans looked to be in trouble when Anthony Davis went to the locker room in the first quarter after being kneed in the hip by Blake Griffin, missing the rest of the first half, but Jrue Holiday and Julius Randle picked up the slack to guide the New Orleans Pelicans home 116-108.

Holiday scored a game-high 37 points on 14-of-22 shooting, while Randle took on the Pistons frontcourt, giving them 28 points, six rebounds and five assists, handing Detroit their fourth-straight loss.

Davis returned in the third quarter and despite being hurt,  still impacted the game, pulling down nine rebounds and blocking five shots, to go with six points and four assists.


“Just having Anthony on the floor means everything,” Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said post-game. “He might have been closer to 50 percent than 100 percent, but he was still giving us great defence and grabbing big rebounds.”

For the Pistons, Griffin scored 35 points while Andre Drummond finished with 23 points and 19 rebounds. Langston Galloway added a season-high 24 points.

Kemba leads Hornets on the road

Charlotte shook off their road struggles today in New York, cruising to a 119-107 win over the Knicks.

Sunday was just their fourth win in 12 road games to move them to 13-13, led by Kemba Walker's 26 points. The All-Star guard added six assists, six rebounds and four steals, while Jeremy Lamb finished with 19 points and Tony Parker came off the bench to score 16.

Walker scored 14 of his points in the crucial second quarter, helping the Hornets to a 61-47 lead at the half. Charlotte outscored New York 72-54 over the second and third quarters to cruise to victory.

Tim Hardaway Jr scored 21 points for New York, with Frank Ntilikina coming off the bench with 18, but it was Kevin Knox who had the home crowd excited as he poured in a career-high 26 points, including four 3-pointers and 15 rebounds.

Julus Randle: 28 points (11-for-19 FG), six rebounds and five assists

Kawhi Leonard: 20 points (8-for-18 FG), eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks

Rudy Gay: 23 points (10-for-16 FG), 15 rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block

DeMar DeRozan: 26 points (10-for-23 FG),  eight assists, six rebounds, two steals and one block

Donovan Mitchell: 27 points (8-for-21 FG), five rebounds, one assist, two steals and one block
