While teams are preparing for the free agency period to open, the Portland Trail Blazers have ensured their franchise player will be around for years to come.

According to a report from The Athletic's Shams Charania, Damian Lillard and the Blazers are nearing an agreement on a four-year supermax extension worth $196 million.

With the extension, Lillard will now be a Blazer for six more season and earn an annual salary of $43 million, per Charania.

In the 2018-19 season, Lillard earned All-NBA Second Team honours after averaging 25.8 points, a career-high 6.9 assists and 4.6 rebounds over 80 regular-season games. In the postseason, the four-time All-Star led the Blazers to the Western Conference Finals after averaging 26.9 points and 6.6 assists in the postseason, knocking down a number of clutch shots in the process.

Portland finished third in the West with a 53-29 record this past season and with Lillard running the show for the next six years, look to continue to reach new heights in the competitive West.
