The 57th edition of the World Table Tennis Championships began in Durban, South Africa on Saturday.
Several Indian paddlers like Manika Batra, G Sathiyan and Archana Kamath were in action on the opening day.
The pair of Archana Kamath and Manika progressed to the second round comfortably by beating USA's Emily Quan and Yishiua Lin 10-12, 11-2, 11-9, 11-5.
Batra also competed in the mixed doubles category where the pair of G. Sathiyan and herself progressed to the next round beating Luxembourg's Luka Mladenovic and Xia Lian Ni 9-11, 11-8, 14-16, 11-7, 11-6.

Among the Indian players who lost on the opening day were Suthirtha Mukherjee in the women's singles category and Manush Shah in men's singles.
