Sprinter Purma Banerjee was India’s first ever Olympic flag-bearer at Antwerp 1920 while boxing legend Mary Kom and former Indian men’s hockey team captain Manpreet Singh were jointly granted the honour at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The Indian contingent at the Paris Olympics 2024's opening ceremony will jointly be led by two flag-bearers, Sharath Kamal (male) and PV Sindhu (female).
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) had earlier announced that veteran table tennis player Sharath Kamal, a two-time Commonwealth Games champion and Khel Ratna awardee, will be India’s flag-bearer at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.
On Monday, 9th July, former Olympian and current IOA president, PT Usha announced that two-time Olympic medalist and badminton star PV Sindhu will also be the co-flagbearer alongside Sharath Kamal, at the Paris Olympics 2024's opening ceremony.
"I am also delighted to announce that India’s only woman to win two Olympic medals, PV Sindhu, as the female flag-bearer alongside table tennis ace Sharath Kamal in the opening ceremony," PT Usha said
Sharath Kamal and PV Sindhu will be the 19th flag-bearers for India at the Olympics.

While this is the third Olympics for PV Sindhu, who has won medals in both her previous appearances at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, Sharath Kamal will be participating in his fifth Summer Games. Sharath Kamal made his Olympics debut in 2004 at the Athens Summer Games.
