The Parade of Nations is one of the most exciting moments in the Olympics. At the start of every Games, athletes from all participating countries are introduced in a grand ceremony watched by millions worldwide.
The 2024 Paris Olympics will feature a unique twist. Instead of athletes walking on a stage, they will be introduced on boats cruising down the River Seine. This will be the first time in Summer Games history that the parade takes place on water and outside a stadium.
What will be the route of river Parade?
At the Paris Olympics opening ceremony, athletes from every country will take part in a river parade. The parade will follow a six-kilometre route along the Seine.
It will start from the Austerlitz bridge beside the Jardin des Plantes and will pass around the Île Saint Louis and the Île de la Cité, before going under several bridges and gateways.

As many as 94 boats are expected to participate in the river parade. Athletes will get to see some of the official Games venues, including Parc Urbain La Concorde, the Esplanade des Invalides, the Grand Palais, and the Iéna bridge. The parade will stop at the Trocadéro for the ceremony’s finale.
How is the order of Nations in the Parade decided?
The order of countries for the opening ceremony is decided alphabetically according to the host nation’s language. For the Paris Olympics, the order will follow the French alphabet. For example, Chinese Taipei will walk as the 180th country between Tajikistan and Tanzania.

India will be the 84th nation to march in the Parade of Nations at the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony.
