The protesting Indian wrestlers, including Olympians Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, met Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Wednesday and submitted a list of five demands.
The wrestlers have been assured of a thorough investigation into the sexual harassment allegations against the Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh after which they suspended their protest.
The gravest charge against Brij Bhushan, who is a six-time MP of India's ruling party BJP and a political strongman, was sexual harassment of seven wrestlers, including a minor.
The protest came to a head on Sunday, May 28, when the protesters were dragged off the streets and detained and their protest site torn down. This happened on the same day when India's new parliament building was inaugurated.
Following their detention, wrestlers had threatened to immerse their medals in the River Ganga and sit in for a hunger strike.

The government finally relented and agreed to discuss the matter with the wrestlers on Wednesday. Their meeting with Thakur lasted nearly six hours where they put in five demands. They are as follows:
1. Wrestlers have expressed their demand for a female leader to assume the position of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) head.
2. Brij Bhushan Singh and any members of his family will not be involved in the wrestling federation.
3. The protesting wrestlers are urging for transparent and impartial elections within the wrestling body due to allegations of corruption and mismanagement against its leadership.
4. The wrestlers are also requesting the withdrawal of the First Information Report (FIR) filed against them, which accuses them of breaching law and order during a scuffle at Jantar Mantar on April 28.
5. The wrestlers have reiterated their call for the arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on allegations of sexual harassment.
