Indian continued its medal haul on Day 5 of the Asian Athletics Championships 2023, which took place at the Suphachalasai National Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Asian Athletics Championships 2023 began on Wednesday, July 12 and will go on till July 16. India have sent a contingent of 50 plus athletes and are expecting a rich haul from the continental event.
India bagged 13 medals on the final day, Sunday, to finish with a total of 27 medals -- six gold, 12 silver and nine bronze. They were placed third in medal tally at the continental event, behind Japan (16 silver, 11 silver, 10 bronze) and China (eight gold, eight silver, six bronze).
With 27 medals, India equalled their best-ever performance at the Asian Athletics Championships. They had captured the same number of medals at Bhubaneshwar 2017.

Jyothi Yarraji won two medals at the event. Having won a gold in women's 100m hurdles previously, she snatched a silver in 200m with her season best timing of 23.13 seconds.

Parul Chaudhary also finished the event with two medals. She won a silver in the women's 5000m race to go with her women's 3000m steeplechase gold.

The NCOE @SAI_Bengaluru camper clocked a time of 9:38.76 in Women's 3000m Steeplechase Final to mark this feat.

Meanwhile, Indian long jumper Murali Sreeshankar booked his berth in the Paris Olympics 2024 as he won the silver at the Asian Athletics Championship on Saturday with a jump of 8.37m.
