Notable NFL cuts 2023
Colt McCoy, Cardinals
With Kyler Murray out for at least the first month of the regular season, the Cardinals decided not to roll with McCoy's experience, instead picking between newly acquired Joshua Dobbs and rookie fifth-rounder Clayton Tune to start Week 1 in Washington.
Bailey Zappe, Trace McSorley and Malik Cunningham, QBs, Patriots
The Patriots for now cleaned out the depth chart behind Mac Jones with McSorley, the former Ravens and Cardinals backup coming first. Cunningham might have versatile value for them down the line. Zappe was a shocker, but he also might be back.
Melvin Gordon, RB, Ravens
The 2015 Chargers first-rounder might finally be going the way of draftmate Todd Gurley.
Kellen Mond, QB, Browns
The rise of Dorian Thompson-Robinson did him in.
Brett Maher, K, Broncos
The team acquired former Saint Wil Lutz, making the former Cowboy Maher expendable in the race to replace Brandon McManus.
Johnathan Abram, S and Bradley Roby, CB, Saints
Abram, a 2019 first-rounder with the Raiders, couldn't getting his career back on track with former Raiders coach Dennis Allen. Roby, a 2014 first-rounder with the Broncos, is slowing down as a big cover man at 31.
Jamison Crowder, WR, Giants
The well-traveled slot man was caught in a healthy crowd that now includes Wan'Dale Robinson again.
Keelan Doss, WR, Chargers
The former Raiders training camp star couldn't land on their rivals.
Greg Ward, WR, Eagles
Ward once had some buzz but the numbers game finally got him.
Brett Rypien, QB, Rams
This means they are happen with rookie Stetson Bennett as the next man up after Matthew Stafford.
Zonovan Knight, RB, Jets
"Bam" was a nice surprise late as an undrafted rookie reserve pressed into action last season but the arrival of Dalvin Cook and Israel Abanikanda sealed his fate.
Breshad Perriman, WR, Colts
The one-time Ravens first-rounder couldn't stick here behind their youth movement with Michael Strachan also being cut.
Kenyan Drake, RB, Colts
Drake has helped out the Dolphins, Cardinals, Raiders and Ravens but couldn't make a fifth team at 29.
James Robinson, RB, Giants
Once an undrafted rookie feel-good story for the Jaguars, the Jets, Patriots and now a third team haven't worked out for him.
Alex Leatherwood, OT, Bears
The 2021 Raiders surprise first-rounder now is an all-out literal massive bust.
N'Keal Harry, WR, Vikings
The Patriots 2019 first-rounder has flashed little when healthy and can go down as another wasted offensive pick for Bill Belichick.
Trevor Siemian, QB, Bengals
Given Joe Burrow's injury this was interesting but Jake Browning ending up doing enough to win the top backup job.
Deion Jones, LB, Panthers
The second-rounder of the Falcons in 2016 couldn't find a home with another NFC South team after a short Browns stint.
Cade York, K, Browns
The Browns invested a fourth-rounder on him just last year but he didn't please them enough, prompting the trade for former Charger Dustin Hopkins.
Max Duggan, QB, Chargers
He was a long-shot seventh-rounder to make the team despite his pedigree from TCU, the program that produced first-round rookie wide receiver Quentin Johnston.
Myles Gaskin, RB and Robby Chosen, WR, Dolphins
Gaskin was squeezed out by rookie De'Von Achane. Chosen, the former Robbie Anderson, might be out of options.
Jordan Ta'amu, QB, Vikings
Ta'amu couldn't parlay winning 2023 XFL Offensive Player of the Year with the DC Defenders into an NFL roster spot.
Justin Bethel, CB, Dolphins
The 3-time Pro Bowl special teams player is 33 after his fifth-team stint.
Dan Arnold, TE, Eagles
The former Saint, Cardinal, Panther and Jaguar couldn't find himself a spot in a crowded tight end room.
Denzel Mims, WR, Lions
The 2020 Jets second-rounder never has gotten his career to launch.
Kendall Hinton, WR, Broncos
Remember when the 2020 undrafted free agent started as an emergency QB? Well, Sean Payton didn't see him as a new Taysom Hill.
Trent Taylor, WR, Bengals
The former 49er and key Super Bowl contributor was expendable with the newfound drafted depth.
Michael Badgley, K, Titans
The well-traveled field-goal artist couldn't make it six teams in as many seasons.
Rodrigo Blankenship, K, Buccaneers
Chase McLaughlin will be the kicker in Tampa Bay.
Germain Ifedi, OT, Lions
Ifedi was a disappointing first-rounder for the Seahawks in 2016 and it looks like the end of the line.
Greedy Williams, CB, Eagles
The 2019 Browns second-rounder failed to stick with his second team.
Nathan Rourke, QB, Jaguars
The one highlight-reel play against the Cowboys will go down as his fantasy island.
Damiere Byrd, WR, Panthers
The 30-year-old tried to make it work on his original team but the youth and savvy ahead of him was enough.
P.J. Walker, QB, Bears
The Bears invested some decent backup money on the former Temple star and Panthers QB but were fine with Tyson Bagent behind Justin Fields with Nathan Peterman also being released.
Jake Fromm, QB, Commanders
There was no need to extend here beyond the 1-2 punch of Sam Howell and Jacoby Brissett.
Bryan Edwards, WR, Saints
The 2020 third-rounder of the Raiders missed his chance to play with Derek Carr again.
Jake Luton, QB, Panthers
The 2020 sixth-rounder of the Jaguars didn't have a real shot at a spot with these other cats.
Jaret Patterson, RB, Commanders
He once showed some zip in a different offense but Eric Bieniemy preferred rookie Chris Rodriguez Jr. and journeyman Jonathan Williams as reserves.
Brandon Parker, OT, Raiders
He's been a starter at right tackle in two of the past four seasons when healthy but now Jermaine Eluemenor is taking over opposite Kolton Miller.
Anthony Averett, CB, 49ers
The former Raider and Raven wasn't needed in a deep, remixed San Francisco secondary.
Anthony Schwartz, WR, Browns
The 2021 third-rounder hasn't been able to stay healthy and the addition of Elljah Moore wasn't good news.
Shane Ray, LB, Bills
The 2015 first-rounder of the Broncos couldn't stick behind former teammate Von Miller in his attempt to return from the CFL.
Wyatt Davis, G, Giants
The 2021 third-rounder of the Vikings couldn't stay with the Giaints for a third time.
Jace Sternberger, TE, Bills
The one-time promising Packer was caught in the expected numbers game behind Dalton Knox and Dalton Kincaid.
Corliss Waitman, P, Patriots
The former Steeler and Bronco didn't get consideration for the job in New England.
