Mumbai, 30th May 2019: For the first time ever in its history, Red Bull Reign-a unique global 3 on 3 basketball tournament came to India. The City qualifiers took place across 12 cities including Chennai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Goa, Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai, Aizawl, Guwahati, Delhi, Ludhiana and Jaipur.
16 teams (the winners of the respective city qualifiers from 12 teams and 4 wildcard teams) - Team Phoenix from Chennai, Team Clutch from Bangalore, Team Income Tax from Ahmedabad, Team Dropstep from Goa, Team Loyala from Hyderabad, Team Customs from Pune, NFR A from Guwahati, Team Income Tax A from Delhi, Team Singh from Mumbai, Team BBQ Chicken Wings from Aizawl, Punjab Warriors from Ludhiana and Eklaavya Society from Jaipur battling it out at the National Finals of Red Bull Reign on 8th June 2019 in Mumbai at Indian Gymkhana, Matunga.
The winners of the National Finals also get the glorious opportunity of travelling to Toronto, Canada and representing the nation at the World Finals later this year.
The National Finals of Red Bull Reign will also witness players that have represented the country at various levels. Players like Amritpal Singh (former India senior team’s captain and a regular member of the Indian basketball team), Arshpreet Singh (Current member of India’s 3x3 basketball team), Yadwinder Singh (captain of the team that led India in the Commonwealth Games in 2018), Vishesh Bhriguvanshi (Current Indian men's 3x3 team captain), Lalrina Renthelei (Captain of the Bangalore 3BL team representing India at the FIBA 3x3 Hyderabad Masters 2018), Arvind Krishna (played an integral part of the Hyderabad Ballers team which finished third in the standings), Sowkin Shetty(Part of the Bangalore 3BL team representing India at the FIBA 3x3 Hyderabad Masters 2018), Pratyanshu Tomar (One of the Top performers for India at the FIBA U-18 Asian Championship in Thailand and part of the Indian Senior national team at the age of 18) and Vinay Kaushik (Part of the Indian team that beat China in 2014 and 2016) will be participating in the National Finals.
With a unique format lending itself to no downtime after made baskets to take a breather or get set on defense — plus no time to celebrate — Red Bull Reign is a test of stamina, endurance while trying to accumulate the most points possible to outlast the opponents within the given time (10mins).
Open for men who are 16+ years, Red Bull Reign uses a unique set of rules based on the gameplay of the FIBA rules. The FIBA 3 on 3 rules are:
- Half-court game
- Each team shall consist of 4 players (3 players on the court and 1 substitution)
- The first team which scores 21 points or more wins the game if it happens before the end of regular playing time
National Finals Tournament Format:
Pool Rules:
- Round-robin matches. With 16 teams
- Top (2) teams from each pool, based on the highest Reign Scores, advance to the next round.
16 teams (Round of 16). A total of 39 matches.
Round 1:
- 4 pools with 4 teams in each pool.
- Top 2 teams from each pool qualify for Round 2
- Total of 24 matches in round 1
Round 2:
- 2 pools with 4 teams in each pool that have qualified from round 1
- Top 2 teams from each pool qualify for semi’s
- Total of 12 matches in round 2
Semi Finals – Top 2 teams of each pool from round 2
Finals – Winning teams of both semi-finals.
