Tyson Chandler is joining the Houston Rockets on a one-year deal, his agent told Marc Stein of The New York Times.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Rockets had been recruiting Chandler for weeks. The reunion of James Harden and Russell Westbrook "seems to have played a part" in him joining the team, Wojnarowski added.

Chandler spent the 2018-19 season with the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers. In 55 games with the two teams, he averaged 3.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 0.4 blocks in 15.9 minutes per contest.

With Nene declining his player option for the 2019-20 season, Chandler will likely be Clint Capela's backup. The 36-year-old is still a solid rim protector and he'll serve as another lob threat for Harden and Westbrook, who are two of the best drivers in the league.

Chandler is a former Defensive Player of the Year and a one-time All-Star. He won a championship with the Dallas Mavericks in 2010-11, posting 8.0 points, 9.2 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game during the team's playoff run.

Chandler was also teammates with Harden and Westbrook on Team USA in the 2012 Olympics.
