Another big name free agent is off the market.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski has reported that free agent centre DeMarcus Cousins has reached an agreement on a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Cousins joins the Lakers after spending a season of ups-and-downs with the Golden State Warriors in which he missed the first three months of the season while rehabbing a ruptured Achilles tendon suffered in the previous season. He would go on to appear in 30 regular-season games with the Warriors this season, averaging 16.3 points and 8.2 rebounds in just under 26 minutes of action.

In Game 2 of the opening round of the playoffs – the second postseason game of his career – Cousins suffered a torn quadriceps that would keep him sidelined for another six weeks. After a rapid rehabilitation period, he returned in time for the NBA Finals where he had a big role in the Warriors wins in Games 2 and 5.

At his peak, Cousins is an All-NBA calibre centre, posting career averages of 21.2 points and 10.9 rebounds per game and earning four All-Star selections. Untimely and unfortunate injuries have kept him from performing in the postseason.

Signing with Los Angeles will again place him in a position to contribute to playoff success.

With the Lakers, Cousins rejoins Warriors teammate Quinn Cook who reportedly reached a deal with the team today as well as Rajon Rondo and reported trade acquisition Anthony Davis, who were Cousins' teammates in New Orleans.
