Is Kristaps Porzingis playing tonight? Celtics center battling 'serious' leg injury ahead of NBA Finals Game 3 image

Kristaps Porzingis' status for the remainder of the NBA Finals is up in the air.

After sitting for 38 days with a right calf injury, Porzingis returned to the floor when the Finals got underway, making an immediate impact by scoring 20 points in Game 1 and again making his presence felt on both ends in the first half of Game 2. In the second half of Game 2, however, Porzingis went down with an injury that caused concern.

In the lead-up to Game 3, the Celtics shed more light on Porzingis' injury, which head coach Joe Mazzulla described as "serious." With Boston holding a 2-0 series lead, will Porzingis suit up for Game 3 in Dallas?

Here is the latest on Porzingis' status for Wednesday's game.

Is Kristaps Porzingis playing tonight?

Porzingis has been ruled out for Game 3 of the NBA Finals. The Celtics announced that Porzingis would be unavailable less than two hours before tip-off.

On Tuesday, the Celtics announced that Porzingis would be day-to-day after suffering a torn medial retinaculum allowing dislocation of the posterior tibialis tendon in his left leg.

Mazzulla told reporters Boston's medical team will make the final decision on Porzingis' availability, adding that Porzingis "is doing anything and everything he can to be able to play."

Porzingis sang a similar tune, saying "nothing is going to stop me unless I'm told I'm not allowed to play" when asked about his status.

Through two games in the NBA Finals, Porzingis is averaging 16.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks while seeing 21.9 minutes per game off the bench. His offensive bursts and defensive presence have been a major difference-maker for Boston.
