NBA veteran JJ Redick took to Instagram to announce his retirement "from the game of basketball."

"I started playing basketball 30 years ago in my backyard on an uneven patch of dirt, gravel, and grass," Redick wrote. "It was on that court that my dreams began to form. Reality has far surpassed my dreams!! So thankful for 15 years in the NBA and all the amazing relationships and memories along the way."

Redick also posted a video on his YouTube channel in which he explained the reasoning behind his decision.

The No. 11 pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, Redick played 15 seasons in the NBA. He suited up for six different teams, starting his career with the Orlando Magic before stints with the Milwaukee Bucks, LA Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, New Orleans Pelicans and Dallas Mavericks.

It was in Los Angeles where Redick became a full-time starter, establishing himself as a key contributor on some of the most competitive Clippers teams in franchise history.

Redick retires with career averages of 12.8 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. One of the best 3-point shooters of his era, Redick ranks 15th all-time in 3-pointers made (1,950) and 17th in 3-point percentage (.415).
