The 76ers have honored James Harden's trade request.
It took much longer than Harden had hoped, but the 10-time All-Star is heading to the Clippers, marking his fourth team in four seasons.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news early Tuesday morning that LA has acquired Harden in a package for Marcus Morris Sr., Nicolas Batum, Robert Covington, Kenyon Martin Jr. and multiple draft picks.
Harden's time with the 76ers was short-lived. He appeared in 79 games with the franchise over one and a half seasons, posting averages of 21.0 points, 10.6 assists and 6.4 rebounds per game. The 76ers weren't able to advance further than the second round of the playoffs in either of his seasons in Philadelphia.
Harden will now have an opportunity to compete for a championship in Los Angeles with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. It's where he reportedly wanted to go, and Leonard and George were said to have been "on board" with Harden joining their core.
Here are the latest updates on the trade that ends Harden's time with the 76ers.
James Harden trade details
Clippers receive:
- James Harden
- PJ Tucker
- Filip Petrusev
- Future first-round pick
76ers receive:
- Marcus Morris
- Nicolas Batum
- Robert Covington
- Kenyon Martin Jr.
- 2028 first-round pick (unprotected)
- One first-round pick swap
- Two future second-round picks
The Clippers add Harden and Tucker following an injury-riddled season that saw them post a 44-38 record and lose in the first round of the playoffs to the Suns. George was sidelined for the series and Leonard appeared in two of the five games.
The Clippers face the possibility of Harden, George and Leonard each being free agents in 2024. George and Leonard could join Harden in unrestricted free agency by declining their player options for the 2024-25 season.
Along with the package of draft picks, the 76ers receive 22-year-old wing Kenyon Martin Jr. and a hoard of veteran rotation players to remain competitive with the juggernauts atop of the Eastern Conference, Boston and Milwaukee. Morris, a Philadelphia native, averaged 11.2 points per game for the Clippers last season. Batum and Covington are both known for their defensive versatility, while Martin Jr. provides some upside in the deal.
Danny Green will be waived by the 76ers to complete the deal, per Wojnarowski. It's also worth noting that the Clippers did not have to give up Terance Mann, who was reportedly a player of Philadelphia's interest in a potential deal.
