Indian prospect and NBA Global Academy alum Aashay Verma began college last week at Butte-Glenn Community College and is still working hard to earn an NCAA scholarship, as per the NBA Academy
The Butte-Glenn Community College is located in Northern California in the United States.
Verma, a 7-2 center from Hyderabad, relocated to Australia when the NBA Global Academy was set up in Canberra in June of 2017. Since then, he has been an integral part of the Academy's roster.
Aashay Verma, now 20 years old, was first discovered during the tryouts of the first-ever ACG-NBA Jump program in 2015-16. The program was set to give the winner a chance to attend the NBA D-League (now G-League) tryouts.
Back then, Aashay was too young to participate in a program that only allowed players between the ages of 18-22 to participate. Despite being under-age and being ineligible for selection, he was invited to the final of the program in Greater Noida.
From then on, Verma has been selected to nearly every global basketball camp that has been organized by the NBA or FIBA. Months after the ACJ-NBA Jump program, Verma was invited along with two other boys to the Basketball Without Borders Camp 2016 in Australia.
He was invited to the Basketball Without Borders Camp during the 2017 All-Star Weekend in New Orleans. The two years - 2018 and 2019 - he was invited to the NCAA Next Generation Showcase in San Antonio and Minnesota respectively.
Making India proud at NCAA Next Generation Sunday in Texas last weekend was #NBAAcademy’s Aashay Verma.

In June of 2018, Verma was one of three boys (Princepal Singh and Amaan Sandhu) representing India at NBA's Global Camp in Italy.
