On Tuesday night, the Pacers were just seconds away from stealing Game 1 and home-court advantage in the Eastern Conference Finals. Then, Indiana's dream start to the series turned into a nightmare.

A brutal turnover on an inbound play and a clutch 3-pointer from Jaylen Brown sent Game 1 to overtime, and Boston ultimately left the floor with a 133-128 victory. Pacers coach Rick Carlisle took the blame for the loss, telling reporters he should have called a timeout before Andrew Nembhard failed to connect with Pascal Siakam.

"This loss is totally on me. With 10 seconds in regulation, we should've just taken the timeout, advanced the ball, found a way to get it in, made a free throw or two and ended the game," Carlisle said. "It didn't happen. We made some other mistakes, but our guys just need to concentrate on fighting the way they fought in this game from start to finish."

The Celtics' dynamic duo of Brown and Jayson Tatum combined to score 62 points, but the X-factor in the win was Jrue Holiday. The veteran guard made a major impact at both ends of the floor, finishing with 28 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and three steals.

"[Holiday is] the reason why we won this game," Brown said. "I think he just was poised. He took advantage of his matchups. ... And he's guarding [Tyrese] Haliburton, picking him up, chasing him around. That was special from Jrue Holiday."

Now, the big question is whether the Pacers can shake off the sting of that defeat. Indiana managed to bounce back after losing series openers against Milwaukee and New York, but this Boston team has much more talent than its previous opponents.
