Bradley Beal is getting paid.
On June 30, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Beal had agreed to sign a five-year, $251 million extension with the Washington Wizards, making him one of the highest-paid players in the NBA.
Beal declined his $36.4 million player option for the final season of his previous deal, locking up a long-term contract to remain in DC.
The 29-year-old is coming off a tough season with the Wizards, undergoing season-ending surgery on his wrist in March as Washington finished with a 35-47 record, 12th in the East.
In 40 games, Beal averaged 23.2 points, 6.6 assists and 4.7 rebounds on 45.1 percent shooting from the field and a career-low 30.0 percent from the 3-point line.
The 28-year-old has blossomed into the face of the franchise that drafted him with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, committing himself to the Wizards despite only making one playoff appearance over the past four seasons.
Earlier this season, Beal indicated he wanted to be in DC for the long haul.
"This injury also gave me a mental break, a time to evaluate life, and I haven’t changed my mindset,” Beal said, via The Washington Post. “I enjoy being in D.C.; I enjoy being on this team.”
