Over this past week (September 3-9), the 46th Sub Junior National Basketball Championship was held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack, Odisha.
At a tournament that had 24 boys teams and 25 girls teams, the Mizoram boys and Tamil Nadu girls were crowned champions.
Boys division
The Mizoram boys were put together with Delhi, Goa, and Tripura in Group E.
With the Tripura squad not reporting, the squad from the North-East won their remaining two group games by an average of 64 points. They beat Goa 89-1 and then cruised past Delhi 58-18 in their group games.

They went unbeaten through the tournament and upset various other top state teams en route to the championship.
They beat Maharashtra 91-63 in the semifinals and then stunned the Punjab squad 51-46 in the final.
Girls division
The Tamil Nadu girls were slotted into Group B along with Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Delhi.

As the top team from Group B, the girls from Tamil Nadu faced-off against Punjab in the quarterfinals. They cruised past that matchup with a convincing 49-point (76-27) win.

In the semifinals, they won a nail-biter (81-78) against Karnataka.
In the championship game, a rematch of last year, they got crowned the champions with an 85-67 win over the defending champions Maharashtra.
