Jorge Masvidal's retirement created a vacancy for the BMF title and no matchup is better served to fill the void than a highly anticipated rematch between Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje. With a title on the line, two of the UFC's toughest fighters are ready to run it back at UFC 291 on July 29
UFC 291 airs on ESPN+ in the U.S. It emanates from the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Combined, Gaethje and Poirier have won 28 fights in the UFC. The fighters have also collected 24 performance bonuses while competing in the octagon. Their violent nature has warranted a bout to honor their toughness by winning the “baddest m-----f-----” belt.
“I’ve seen people excited about the ‘BMF’ title,” Poirier told MMA Junkie. “I’ve seen people talking s--- about it. To me, if you look at our track record, look at Justin’s history, look at my history. It just makes sense. … All the Fight of the Year contenders we’ve been in. He has other ones from other organizations coming into the UFC, Fight of the Year contenders. It just makes sense. This is going to be a great fight.”

Since beating Gaethje in 2018 via TKO, Poirier has gone 6-2.
Gaethje has also gone 6-2 since the loss, only losing in UFC lightweight title fights. “The Highlight” is the +115 underdog in the bout (per Caesars), but isn't letting that affect what he expects to be an explosive fight.
“So this guy’s a dog, and I know I’m going to have to be perfect. I know that there’s no need for animosity. We’re two of the best, most violent athletes in the sport,” Poirier said on DC & RC via MMA Fighting. “We both love what we do. We both love the carnage, and we’re both content with what we’re about to put ourselves through. It’s all preparation. He’s super confident. I’m super confident coming off this last win. And again, this card is stacked. It’s going to be an electric night.”
